Don Shula remains a Miami Dolphins loyalist. He's still a fixture at the home games. He has a home in Bal Harbour and will be in his Sun Life Stadium luxury box again this year, probably sporting a Dolphins logo on his shirt.
But in a conversation with Miami Herald columnist Armando Salguero, the legendary Dolphins coach didn't pick his team to win the AFC East this year.
"New England,'' Shula replied, when Salguero asked for a prediction.
"New England has the best quarterback in the division," Shula said. "They won it last year, and it's hard to pick against Tom Brady."
Shula also gave his take on the New York Jets.
"The Jets are getting better," Shula said. "They felt they added some reliable pieces. They have the experienced running in [LaDainian] Tomlinson in case the youngster [Shonn Greene] can't do it. And I'm a big Jason Taylor fan. They went on that roll at the end of last year, and I don't think that was a fluke. They played well at the right time. So the Jets are good, too."
