FoxSports.com's Jay Glazer reports the New England Patriots are close to trading receiver Randy Moss to the Minnesota Vikings contingent on Moss working out a contract extension with the team that drafted him in 1998.

MossMossIf a deal is consummated this week, Moss' first game for the Vikings also would be Brett Favre's return to the Meadowlands to play the New York Jets on "Monday Night Football."

The Patriots are in their bye week.

Moss, 33, is in the final year of his contract with the Patriots and repeatedly had stated his belief the Patriots would not re-sign him.

In a postgame news conference after the season-opening victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, he delivered on a lengthy diatribe about not feeling wanted or respected by the Patriots.

Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reported Tuesday night Moss asked his agent, Joel Segal, to contact the Patriots and request a trade after that game.

Moss has only nine receptions for 139 yards and three touchdowns this year. The Miami Dolphins held him to no catches Monday night for only the fifth time in his career. Tom Brady threw just one pass to Moss, but the ball glanced off his fingers in the end zone.

Here is a Sept. 14 interview Moss did with ESPN's "SportsCenter" regarding his contract and NFL future.
