Jets victory in Denver defied the stats

ESPN researcher Mark Simon sent along an interesting nugget about how peculiar the New York Jets' victory against the Denver Broncos was Sunday.

The Jets were:

  • On the road.

  • Outgained on the ground.

  • Outgained in the air.

  • Beaten in the turnover battle.

Since 2007, there have been 125 games in which all of those criteria were met. In those situations, teams are 3-122.

Two of those victories happened this year. The Green Bay Packers beat the Philadelphia Eagles that way in Week 1.

The last time the Jets won a road game in which they had fewer rushing and passing yards and more turnover than their hosts was a 24-22 victory against the Oakland Raiders nine years ago.
