Greetings from soggy Camp Ryan

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Rain is falling and only a couple hundred diehard fans are willing to stand outside and watch the first day of New York Jets training camp Friday morning at SUNY Cortland.

New head coach Rex Ryan has the team in full pads. The stadium lights are on.

Running back Leon Washington, who's said to be close to a contract extension, is on the field. He didn't report to the college campus about a half hour south of Syracuse with the rest of his teammates.

The school's athletic complex features separate football and soccer fields with artificial surfaces. So the soggy conditions haven't hampered the morning session aside from slippery footballs.

Practice is supposed to wrap up at around 10:30 a.m. ET. I'll talk with some players and Ryan shortly thereafter. The afternoon practice is scheduled to begin at 4:10 p.m. Rain is in the forecast for most of the day.
