Woodhead has signed a contract extension through 2012, reports Boston Herald beat writer Ian R. Rapoport.
The base salaries, Rapoport adds, are for $550,000 next year and $700,000 the following year with incentives that can earn him more than $1 million per season.
Woodhead quickly has become a fan favorite for New England. He's the diminutive Chadron State running back (a tad under 5-foot-8) the New York Jets couldn't find any use for and waived.
The Patriots picked him up and have relied on his versatility. Woodhead entered Thursday's game against the Detroit Lions with 312 rushing yards, 217 receiving yards and four combined touchdowns. He's also a special-teams contributor and a reliable blitz blocker.
