AFC East updates

We have a few notes to pass along in the AFC East.

  • First, as expected, New York Jets center Nick Mangold will not play Sunday against the Oakland Raiders. Mangold suffered a high-ankle sprain and said he was preparing to play. But the injury takes several weeks to heal, and it was a long shot Mangold wouldn't miss at least one game.

  • For the New England Patriots, safety Patrick Chung is out after thumb surgery this week. New England is thin at safety entering its game against the Buffalo Bills.

  • Finally, Patriots defensive end Andre Carter was fined $15,000 for leading with his helmet on a hit to San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. Carter plans to appeal the fine.
