McDaniels reunites with WR Greg Salas

Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels used his influence to spark the latest trade in New England. The reigning AFC champions used a late-round draft pick in 2015 to acquire receiver Greg Salas from the St. Louis Rams.

New England was in need of depth at wide receiver after cutting veterans Jabar Gaffney, Deion Branch and Donte’ Stallworth in the past week. McDaniels coached Salas in St. Louis last year, and Salas caught 27 passes for 274 yards as a rookie.

The Patriots now have five receivers on their 53-man roster. Salas joins Wes Welker, Brandon Lloyd, Julian Edelman and special-teams ace Matthew Slater.
