Report: New York Jets cut Aaron Maybin

The New York Jets have cut defensive end Aaron Maybin after recording just one tackle in nine games. The move opened the door for the Jets to add running back Khalil Bell, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Maybin was a former first-round pick and draft bust for the Buffalo Bills. But he had a career year with the Jets in 2011 after registering six sacks as a backup.

But Maybin proved to be a one-year wonder. He made zero impact for the Jets and was struggling mightily against the run.

New York needed running back depth behind starter Shonn Greene. Backup tailbacks Joe McKnight (ankle) and Bilal Powell (shoulder) are fighting through injuries.

Update: Jets confirmed they have released Maybin. The team also put defensive back Isaiah Trufant on injured reserve.
