It’s the topic that won’t go away for the New York Jets: What should the team do with star cornerback Darrelle Revis?
New York has Revis under contract for one more season and probably cannot afford to sign him to a long-term extension in 2014. The franchise tag also is not an option, thanks to language in Revis’ contract. The Jets reportedly are exploring what they can get for Revis now, as opposed to letting him play out the season and risk losing their best player with zero compensation.
The Jets should have every reason to trade Revis. They are rebuilding under first-year general manager John Idzik, and New York is not competing for a championship this season. The Jets have a long rebuild ahead, and getting quality picks for Revis will speed up the process.
