The New York Jets are the biggest players in the first round of Thursday night’s NFL draft. New York has the No. 9 and No. 13 pick, which is a lot of draft capital to fill needs or move around the draft board. The Jets gained their second first-round pick last week after trading star cornerback Darrelle Revis.
However, none of this matters unless Jets first-year general manager John Idzik can make the right picks. There is a lot of pressure on Idzik, as he faces a long and tedious rebuild.
Idzik can go in a lot of different directions with his first two picks. Here are some possibilities via ESPN draft experts Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr. This week during the blogger mock draft, I projected LSU defensive end Barkevious Mingo and West Virginia receiver Tavon Austin for New York.
The homework is done. Now, it's time to see if Idzik can produce.
