If Rex Ryan already knows his fate, he's doing a terrific job of masking his emotions, publicly and privately.
The New York Jets coach has sidestepped questions in news conferences about his future, and he also hasn't revealed anything behind the scenes, according to sources. He's waiting like everyone else to find out if he will be back in 2014.
"Rex doesn't know," a source said Friday night.
A cloud of uncertainty hangs over the massive building on Jets Drive in Florham Park, N.J. The Jets have an unusually large number of assistant coaches in the final year of their contracts, an indication that general manager John Idzik has been mulling a coaching-staff shake-up since last offseason. Soon-to-be free agents include Mike Devlin (offensive line), Karl Dunbar (defensive line), Ben Kotwica (special-teams coordinator), Sanjay Lal (wide receivers), Anthony Lynn (assistant head coach/running backs) and Dennis Thurman (defensive coordinator), sources said.
