Miami Dolphins rookie quarterback Pat White has been carted off the field on a backboard after absorbing a wicked hit that left him motionless on the Pittsburgh Steelers sideline.
White, who was playing for injured started Chad Henne, scrambled up the left sideline for a 7-yard run and was diving out of bounds when Steelers defensive back Ike Taylor crushed him near the end of the third quarter.
White appeared to be briefly knocked unconscious. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, who was a few feet away, immediately motioned for medial assistance.
White was on the field for eight minutes and had movement in his hands and legs. Players gathered for prayers while the backboard was brought out and White was strapped to it.
Third quarterback Tyler Thigpen is expected to replace White.
