Larry Bird stepping down as president of Pacers

Larry Bird is stepping down as president of the Indiana Pacers, ESPN's Marc Spears reports. General Manager Kevin Pritchard will take over the team.

The news was first reported by The Vertical.

No reason for his departure has not been confirmed. Bird, 60, coached the Pacers from 1997-2000. In 2003, he became the president of basketball operations, then retired in 2012. However, after a year off, he came back to the team as president of basketball operations.

He is the only person in NBA history to be named MVP, Coach of the Year and Executive of the Year.
