AFC East quote marks

A collection of quotes from AFC East training camps Thursday:

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick on the passing of Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson:

"I first knew him when he was at Notre Dame. I've had great respect for him. He's a good friend and a real good football coach, tough guy to compete against. Certainly, on behalf of the team and organization, our condolences go out to the Eagles and Jim's family. He's one of the best."

New York Jets linebacker Calvin Pace on his four-game suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy:

"It's disappointing because I feel we have a chance to do some great things. I let the team down, the simple fact that I'm plugged in to certain spots so somebody else is going to have to step in.

"With all of that said, I don't want my situation to be a distraction to what we're trying to do, which is win games. I just have to take the punishment. I'm not going to cry about it. When I come back for the last 12 [games], I'll do my thing."

Jets nose tackle Kris Jenkins on Leon Washington's contract dispute:

"We want him to understand that he needs to take care of his business, but then after he takes care of his business he needs to come back here with his team and take care of his business with us."

Buffalo Bills rookie guard Eric Wood on finally getting his contract done:

"It was a weird process, and the whole time I was sitting there, thinking every day, 'That is a day I could've gotten better. That is a day I could've gotten better.' I trusted my agents, and I trusted Mr. [Ralph] Wilson, and Mr. [Jim] Overdorf, but at the same time I am sitting in my apartment, and all of my teammates are getting better.

"It was a tough transition. It was something that I definitely didn't want to do, but like I said before, it is my responsibility to catch back up now. I can only do what I was saying after practice, coming to practice early, getting in the film room more and that is on me."

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez on participating in his first camp Friday:

"This is all I've ever dreamed of doing, and now I'm going to get a chance to do it. I'll be sure to get my rest, follow the veterans around and kind of understand what camp is all about and really get a feel for things. This is where the season starts so it's time to get focused and real serious."

Bills coach Dick Jauron on how Terrell Owens impacts the other receivers:

"In the short time I've been here, we've talked every year about adding a big receiver, somebody opposite Lee [Evans]. We've always said we love our receiving corps. We really like our mix of receivers, but we needed that big, physical guy. ... In free agency, we got the guy.

"He's got the numbers to show it, so it does change us. It dynamically changes us. I think it changes the way our opponents will look at us. I've coached against him and it's not fun. You've got to have a plan. You've got to have a design. How are you going to stop this guy in the game? So it really does change us."

Belichick, who is entering his 10th season, on what has changed most since his first practice in 2000:

"I'd say I'm a lot friendlier."
