Pats pick Marcus Cannon takes on cancer

Marcus Cannon's last month has been marked by grave fear and elation.

The offensive lineman from Texas Christian was diagnosed with cancer days before the NFL draft. Although non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is treatable, there are no guarantees. Cannon slid down the draft board. The New England Patriots picked him in the fifth round.

Cannon was a guest Thursday on ESPN's "First Take" and spoke with Dana Jacobson about his story.

"My passion for [football] has ... through the days, I've really seen how much I love playing football," Cannon said. "That's really why it didn't bother me if I dropped in the draft because I'm in love with football.

"If I would've went in the seventh round, I'd be happy because I just want to play football. This just showed me things can happen and you can never play football for the rest of my life. I'm going to make the most of whatever I have left."
