GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- Although it didn't come as a surprise, Cincinnati Bengals first-round pick Andre Smith confirmed what many -- including the AFC North blog -- predicted months ago by being a no-show for the opening of training camp Friday.
With Cincinnati's poor reputation in negotiations and Smith's offseason transgressions and inability to settle on an agent, many league observers agreed that it was a foregone conclusion that Smith would hold out. It remains to be seen how long this process takes between the Bengals and their rookie right tackle.
Backup Anthony Collins is getting work with the first team Friday in place of Smith.
We will have more Bengals notes from training camp later.
