Pittsburgh Steelers tailback Rashard Mendenhall wrote a blog in reaction to the heat he received for his controversial tweets this week on the death of Osama bin Laden. In the post, which is titled "Clarification," Mendenhall says he wanted to clear up comments and elaborate on the subject. You can read his full piece here.
The AFC North blog got in contact with Mendenhall's representatives on Wednesday to confirm the validity of the piece, which is legitimate.
"This was truly, word for word, Rashard's thoughts," said Rob Lefko of Priority Sports. "It's was not written by anyone else and not crafted by anyone else."
As we wrote on Tuesday, Writing in 140 characters is a dangerous way to address a topic as emotional and multi-layered as Sept. 11. Of course, everyone is entitled to express their opinions. But high-profile athletes such as Mendenhall should be more careful about the forum in which they choose to express them.
