PITTSBURGH -- It took only three minutes and 11 seconds for the Steelers to score the first touchdown of the game.
Tailback Rashard Mendenhall ran hard during Pittsburgh’s opening drive and scored on a 1-yard touchdown run to give the Steelers a 7-0 lead over the San Diego Chargers. Mendenhall, who started in place of the injured Willie Parker, averaged 4.7 yards per carry on the first drive.
Mendenhall looks like he's running with a purpose early. He was held out of the offense last week against the Cincinnati Bengals because of a poor week of practice and has something to prove.
(Update: Pittsburgh adds another touchdown pass to tailback Mewelde Moore to up the lead to 14-0 in the first quarter.)
