PITTSBURGH -- The Steelers are certainly playing good football. But from the looks of it, the San Diego Chargers also decided not to show up.
The combination has Pittsburgh leading San Diego 28-0 midway through the third quarter. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger easily marched his team down the field and completed a 6-yard touchdown pass to tight end Heath Miller.
The Chargers defensively are not tackling, covering receivers or rushing the passer with any effectiveness. Many experts picked San Diego to win the Super Bowl this year, but the team doesn’t have the look of a contender Sunday night.
Pittsburgh tailback Rashard Mendenhall eclipsed the 100-yard mark early in the third quarter. The Steelers have blown second-half leads in back-to-back weeks, but this sizable lead looks much safer at home.
(Update: Tight end Antonio Gates scores San Diego's first touchdown at the 1:33 mark of the third quarter to break up the shutout.)
