Steelers' preseason starting lineup

This is the depth chart on the Steelers’ official release for their preseason opener:

WR Mike Wallace

LT Trai Essex

LG Willie Colon

C Maurkice Pouncey

RG Ramon Foster

RT Marcus Gilbert

TE Heath Miller

RB Isaac Redman

FB David Johnson

QB Ben Roethlisberger

WR Antonio Brown

Stat to remember: Roethlisberger owns a 80-33 (.708) record as a starting quarterback in the regular season, the second-best record in the NFL among all active quarterbacks.

Best battle: Essex and Foster are listed ahead of the team’s top two picks in the 2012 draft, guard David DeCastro and tackle Mike Adams. DeCastro has been a disappointment so far in camp, but all rookies suffer growing pains. That said, Adams has been working with the first team. So don't be surprised to see him in with the starters instead of Essex.

Injury watch: It’s no surprise that Redman is sitting atop the running back depth chart with Rashard Mendenhall on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

DE Ziggy Hood

NT Steve McLendon

DE Brett Keisel

OLB LaMarr Woodley

ILB Larry Foote

ILB Lawrence Timmons

OLB Chris Carter

LCB Keenan Lewis

FS Ryan Clark

SS Troy Polamalu

RCB Ike Taylor

Stat to remember: Since Taylor became a regular starter (2005-present), the Steelers have led the league in pass defense, allowing only 192.4 net passing yards per game.

Best battle: The competition between Lewis and Cortez Allen is the most intriguing battle in Steelers camp. Curtis Brown appears to have locked up the nickelback job.

Injury watch: Carter is a starter by default. Starter James Harrison and backup Jason Worilds are both on PUP and won't return until the end of the week at the earliest.
