Chat Rewind: Can Shurmur save his job?

Remember that the AFC North chats are held every Wednesday at 2 p.m. Here are some highlights from this week's chat:

eric buffalo,ny [via mobile]: Good day jamison! I've never been the biggest Ramon Foster or Max Starks fan, but they're playing really well lately, as has Mike Adams. What do the Steelers do when Marcus Gilbert and David DeCastro are ready?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN): The Steelers are going to have some decisions to make. Obviously, the future of the line is with DeCastro at right guard and Gilbert at left tackle (Mike Adams would be at right tackle). But you hate to mess with the chemistry right now. I don't think the Steelers know what they're going to do at this point when Gilbert and DeCastro are healthy. But this is a good problem to have.

j-co (baltimore): Fact or Fiction: the AFC will produce at least one wild card team this season.

Jamison Hensley (ESPN): If you're talking AFC North, I thought before the season that the division would only send one team to the playoffs. With the mediocre play in this conference, the Ravens and Steelers should have good shots at making the postseason.

Dave (Troy, Ohio.): I like my man Marvin, but is Marvin Lewis a Super Bowl calibur head coach or not?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN): I thought that 2003 Bengals team was going to make the Super Bowl if not for the injury to Carson Palmer. I don't know if you can classify a coach to be Super Bowl caliber until he wins a playoff game. That should be a prerequisite.

Peter Pumpkin (Dayton Ohio): Would the Browns defeating the Ravens on Sunday be considered the biggest upset of this season? I honestly feel like this is going to happen.

Jamison Hensley (ESPN): The last time I checked the Ravens were only a 3.5-point favorite. So, I wouldn't classify that as much of an upset. The only reason it would feel that way is the fact that Harbaugh and Flacco have never lost to the Browns. It would be more of a statement by the Browns than an upset.

Chris (Texas): Is there any word on how is DeCastro's recovery going or if we are going to see him any time soon?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN): Nothing new on DeCastro recently. He is eligible to practice now, but I hear the earliest he would come back is the Week 10 Monday nighter against the Chiefs. But that is just speculation at this point.

Alex (OH): It looks like Dre Kirkpatrick is on track to play Sunday, what can we expect from him?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN): Like most talented first-round cornerbacks, he will make some great plays and some dumb ones. That's the growing pains with a young corner.

Kevin (Maryland): Which is more likely to improve, Ravens run defense or pass defense?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN): Run defense. I'm not sold on Cary Williams and Jimmy Smith at the cornerback spots.

The Divine Lord Of Cleveland (Kelley's Island, La): Mr.Hensley, if the Browns were to run the table -- and somehow make the playoffs -- and you were Jimmy Haslam or Joe Banner, would you retain Pat Shumur and his coaching staff?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN): If Shurmur can take this team to the playoffs, they should make a bust for him in Canton at the end of the season.

Matt (Charlotte, NC): Do you think there is a magic number of wins that allows Shurmur to keep his job or is he gone regardless?

Jamison Hensley (ESPN): Barring a crazy run that gets them to .500 or a winning record, I don't see Haslam keeping Shurmur.
