In the spirit of Thanksgiving, the AFC North blog is picking out one player for whom the team is thankful for having:
If you ask anyone who has been the most dominant player on the Bengals this year, the most popular answer would be A.J. Green. But is it the right answer? Defensive tackle Geno Atkins doesn't have the name recognition of Green, but he is well-known among offensive linemen in this league.
Through 10 games, Atkins leads the Bengals in sacks (eight), forced fumbles (three), quarterbacks pressures (16) and tackles for loss (nine). His eight sacks ties the franchise record for an interior lineman. Dan Wilkinson had eight sacks in 1995. Dating back to last season, Atkins has 15.5 sacks in his past 26 games. His presence is a major reason why the Bengals rank third in the league with 30 sacks this season.
