In the spirit of Thanksgiving, the AFC North blog is picking out one player for whom the team is thankful for having:
Coaches, quarterbacks and now even owners have changed since the Browns returned to the NFL in 1999, but the one constant of the expansion era Browns has been kicker Phil Dawson. Signing with the Browns a month before Tim Couch was drafted, Dawson is making a case for being the best kicker in the NFL this season as well as the top kicker in Browns history.
He's made all 19 field goals this year and has converted on 25 straight dating back to last season, which is the longest current streak in the league. This is the fourth time that Dawson has put together a streak of at least 20 consecutive field goals made. Dawson is three away from breaking the longest field goal streak of his career. Dawson’s career success rate of 68.8 percent from 50 yards or longer is the third-highest in NFL history. His 12 field goals of 50 yards or longer since 2011 are the most in the NFL.
