'Big Ben' expected to play vs. Oakland

RoethlisbergerRoethlisbergerPITTSBURGH -- Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed Tuesday that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (concussion) is expected to start this weekend against the Oakland Raiders.

Exercised-induced headaches caused Roethlisberger to be sidelined one day before Pittsburgh's crucial loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Steelers (6-5) captain and receiver Hines Ward was among the most vocal about the situation, but Tomlin believes that issue has been ironed out.

"I’ve been informed that those two guys spoke extensively," Tomlin said during his weekly news conference. "I spoke to Hines last night. He called me and it was a good, clean conversation. He assured me that this football team will be ready to prepare for and ultimately play Oakland when we come here [Wednesday]."

In terms of other injuries, Pro Bowl safety Troy Polamalu is doubtful and likely won’t play Sunday, according to Tomlin. Starting offensive guard Chris Kemoeatu (knee) and defensive end Travis Kirschke (calf) will both be limited in practice this week and likely listed as "questionable" against the Raiders.
