OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- A television crew wanted to film the Ravens players with a Lombardi Trophy prop earlier this week at team headquarters. When they tried to do so with Ray Lewis, the Ravens linebacker had the trophy removed and ordered everyone not to touch it.
Even as he enters his final NFL game, the 17-year veteran is still teaching his teammates a lesson.
"Like I told my team, don’t ever take pictures with nothing that’s not yours, nothing that you haven’t earned," Lewis said. "When we hold that Lombardi, whoever holds that Lombardi next Sunday, you’ve earned it when you touch it. I don’t believe in jinxes and all that, I just believe in don’t set yourself up for something. Just really work for it.”
"I think it’s great," running back Ray Rice said of Lewis' decision to remove the Lombardi prop. "I’m not superstitious or anything, but I don’t want to see something that’s not rightfully ours yet. We have to work to get that."
