Flacco delivers right message, wrong word

NEW ORLEANS -- Much has been made of Joe Flacco ripping next year's Super Bowl in chilly New York.

"I think it's retarded. I probably shouldn't say that. I think it's stupid," Flacco said Monday. On Tuesday, Flacco once again apologized, saying, "Obviously, it was a poor choice of words. At home, I have a close relationship with Special Olympics. I didn't mean to offend anyone."

The problem is people are focusing on one wrong word. Flacco's sentiment, however, is correct.

The Super Bowl is a reward for the teams and their fans. They want to play golf in Arizona, stay on the beach in Miami and party down on Bourbon Street. Putting the Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium makes as much sense as holding the Winter X Games in San Diego.

No one should knock Flacco for being soft for his stance on a cold-weather Super Bowl. Let's not forget that he just won games in Denver and New England. Flacco, a New Jersey native, is just saying what everyone will be thinking this time next year.
