Pollard tweets 'time in Baltimore is done'*

The Ravens' rough start to free agency included a surprise at the start of Day 2, when safety Bernard Pollard tweeted that he's been released by the team.

This was Pollard's post from his Twitter account: "Well Raven Nation it's been fun. My time in Baltimore is done... Thank you!"

The Ravens have yet to confirm this move. Pollard, the leading tackler for the Super Bowl champions, was due a $500,000 roster bonus and a $2 million salary this year. He signed a four-year, $12.3 million contract 10 months ago. If Pollard has been released, that means both of the Ravens' starting safeties (Pollard and Ed Reed) are free agents.

This offseason has already delivered a hit to the Ravens, especially on defense. As of right now, only five Super Bowl starters on defense are under contract: defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, defensive end Art Jones, linebacker Terrell Suggs, outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw and cornerback Corey Graham.

The Ravens have lost linebacker Dannell Ellerbe to the Dolphins in free agency and linebacker Ray Lewis retired. Reed, Pollard, cornerback Cary Williams and nose tackle Ma'ake Kemoeatu are free agents.

*UPDATE: A source tells ESPN.com that Pollard will be released after he takes his physical this morning.
