Seeding is what's at stake for both teams Sunday afternoon as the Colts look to hold onto their No. 3 playoff seed, and the Bengals try to snatch it from them. A Cincinnati win would do just that, and a simultaneous New England loss to Cleveland would be enough give the Bengals the No. 2 spot. Their win over the Patriots earlier this season would serve as the seeding tiebreaker.
In addition to the teams' postseason seeding hopes, they have other motivations. Indianapolis will try to keep its winning ways alive after beating Tennessee 22-14 in a key AFC South showdown at home last week.
For the Bengals, a three-game winning streak is on the line as they look to build upon victories the last two games over Cleveland and San Diego. Against the Chargers last week, a strong outing from their rushing game and a gutsy effort from a defense headed by a hobbled Vontaze Burfict, propelled the Bengals to the 17-10 win.
As you get ready for the day's game, here are a few items to be aware of:
Kickoff/TV: 1 p.m. ET/CBS
Weather: 11 degrees. Snow/wintry mix. Winds: Up to 11 mph during the game.
Records: Colts (8-4); Bengals (8-4)
Series history: Indianapolis has a 17-9 all-time advantage over the Bengals. It also holds an 8-3 advantage in games played in Cincinnati. In the teams' last meeting, a 2011 contest at Paul Brown Stadium, the Bengals won 27-17. The teams also have met 22 times in the preseason, with the Bengals leading that series 14-8.
Worth noting: Because of the snowy and icy conditions in Cincinnati, the Bengals and Colts got onto the field for warm-ups a little later than normal. Players were about a half hour or so tardy, as they were forced to wait until ground crews cleared a tarp that was full of snow. After rolling the snow off it, the crews removed the tarp and got the field ready as best they could. There is a heating supply underneath the field turf, so footing shouldn't be too much of an issue for the players. According to the National Weather Service, the snow should ease up just before kickoff and not return until after the game is over.
