Who knew an abysmal 10.0 passer rating could be worth so much?
According to his contract, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco earned a $200,000 bonus for his Jan. 10 victory over the New England Patriots in the wild-card round. Flacco completed just 4 of 10 passes in that game for 34 yards and an interception. But Baltimore ran the football 52 times against New England and won comfortably, 33-14.
The Ravens were eliminated the following week by the Indianapolis Colts, 20-3, in the divisional round. Flacco threw two interceptions against Indianapolis, as he struggled through the playoffs with a significantly bruised right hip and quad.
In addition to an increase in base salary, Flacco also earned $400,000 in bonuses last year for a pair of playoff victories against the Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans. Flacco became the first rookie quarterback to win two road postseason games, which is a feat Mark Sanchez of the New York Jets recently matched this year.
