Getting to know: Owen Marecic

We continue our series on getting to know incoming rookies in the AFC North.

Wednesday we take a look at Cleveland Browns fourth-round pick Owen Marecic, who was drafted to replace pending free-agent fullback Lawrence Vickers.

Here is the full scouting report on Marecic from the draft guide of The Sporting News:

  • Strengths: Marecic is a tough, aggressive fullback who delivers a hard blow, but sometimes his technique slips and he does not get the movement needed to drive his man out of a play. When he does use good technique, he jolts defenders backward. Does a good job of pass blocking with good knee bend. Has good hands and can twist his body to catch off-target passes.

  • Weaknesses: Lacks the quickness, explosiveness, elusiveness and speed to take plays the distance. Has the ability to lead block, but doesn't use the best technique. Is not dangerous as a ball-carrier. Despite his ability to run through contract after the catch, he is not effective at gaining yards.
