Bengals cut Fletcher

The Cincinnati Bengals cut veteran cornerback Jamar Fletcher and two others Saturday as the team moves a step closer to finalizing its 53-man roster.

The team also released college free agents Greg Orton and Pernell Phillips. Fletcher, a nine-year veteran, was the biggest name because Cincinnati signed him during training camp following an injury to cornerback David Jones.

"Cut day" in the NFL is Sept. 5, which is when every team has to trim its roster down to 53 players.
