Jump ahead, if you will, past the draft to the wondrous time of OTAs -- that’s organized team activities, for you neophytes.
If you’re wondering when teams are back on the field in some capacity and you will begin hearing from players and coaches a bit more, here’s the OTA schedules from a league release.
Here are details of how it works: Teams are permitted to conduct up to 14 OTA sessions as part of their offseason workout programs. In addition, clubs may conduct one mandatory veteran minicamp. The Jaguars, Texans and Titans are down for all 14 days, while the Colts schedule includes nine.
Houston Texans: May 17-20, May 24-27, June 1-3, June 8-10
Indianapolis Colts: May 18, May 20, May 25, May 27, June 1-2, June 8, June 10-11
Jacksonville Jaguars: May 17-18, May 20, May 24-25, May 27, June 7-8, June 10, June 14-15, June 17, June 21-22
Tennessee Titans: April 27, April 29, May 11, May 13, May 18-19, May 25, May 27, June 14-15, June 17, June 22, June 24-25
Houston, Indy and Jacksonville held minicamps last season and could add one onto this calendar. The Titans did not have a minicamp last offseason.
Last spring/summer, I made trips to Houston, Indianapolis and Jacksonville during these windows, and with the gracious approval of my bosses I hope to follow a similar course this May and June.
But that planning will have to wait until rosters are filled out with our three-day draft festival next week.
