NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- As he’s tried to diffuse questions about the Titans’ decision to trade this year’s second-round pick for a third-rounder last year, Jeff Fisher’s joked about bringing Jared Cook in for an introductory press conference.
CookCoxHere is our second-round pick,” Fisher would say, head leaning at Cook, the tight end out of South Carolina chosen 89th last spring.
The Cardinals just traded with the Patriots for the 47th pick and drafted Daryl Washington with what would have been the Titans’ pick. Since there will not actually be a press conference with Cook, here’s a recent column I did on him to tide you over and serve as a reminder of why you’re missing what you’re missing.
I wish I could provide something similar for Derek Cox, as the Jaguars made a similar move to get him 73rd in the third last year, giving New England No. 44, which was just traded to Oakland and used on defensive tackle Lamarr Houston.
But I haven’t talked to Cox recently, so we’ll have to shoot for that later. (He played and produced a lot more than Cook as a rookie, so Jags fans can't complain as noisily as Titans fans right now.)
