Scouts Inc. on Thomas in Jacksonville

I asked Matt Williamson of Scouts Inc. how he thinks Tra Thomas will fit in Jacksonville, and how much of an upgrade Thomas will be at left tackle over Khalif Barnes.

Here's what Williamson said:

"Thomas is interesting, as is much of the Eagles' O-line, in that they are -- as a group and individually -- better as run blockers than in pass protection ... yet Philly continues to throw the ball far too much. He is a veteran who entered the league with a wealth of first-round talent. As that talent has diminished steadily over the years -- especially his initial quickness and ability to adjust in space -- he has become very crafty with his hand placement, blocking angles and other nuances of the position. He is certainly a short-term upgrade over Barnes -- both on and off the field -- but while Barnes still has a little upside to his game, Thomas certainly does not. The Jags love huge, physical football players, especially up front. Thomas should fit this mold, and while he could be more of a finisher in the run game, he does have the power and size to overpower DEs in the run game -- especially ones like Indy and Tennessee offer."
