NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Some thoughts generated by the work of ESPN Stats & Information as kickoff approaches at LP Field:
Look for Peyton Manning to fare better throwing inside the numbers and Kerry Collins to do his better work on the outside. Manning’s got a passer rating of 94.2 inside the numbers and 81.3 outside the numbers, where he’s completing only 56.1 percent of his throws. Collins has a 78.2 passer rating outside the numbers where he is completing just 50.8 percent of his throws. His rating is just 61.4 inside the numbers.
For all his recent struggles, Manning’s numbers inside the red zone remain fantastic. He’s thrown 19 touchdowns and no interceptions, with a 106.7 passer rating. The Colts are the NFL’s No. 1-red zone offense, with a 70.7 percent TD rate. The Titans remain the No. 1 red-zone defense, holding opponents to TDs 36 percent of the time.
The Colts have 29 drops for Manning, second in the league to Detroit. The Titans get the fewest yards after the catch in the league, with just 32.2 percent of their passing yards earned after the ball is delivered.
