No hurry on tag for Peyton Manning

It’s no surprise that the Colts are ready to use the franchise tag on Peyton Manning. (We talked yesterday about how the tag, in the eyes of the NFLPA, has no meaning.)

Mike Chappell raises a good point in this piece: The Colts are likely to use it later, rather than sooner, because you can only use it once, and if they strike a late deal with Manning they’d leave themselves the chance to use it on someone else.

"[A deal] will get done when it gets done," Bill Polian told Chappell Wednesday. "We're in a very, very unsettled situation as an industry, so I don't have any timetable specifically."
