Jones-Drew, Johnson out of Madden bracket

Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew lost a narrow decision to Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles in the tournament-style voting for the Madden 12 cover.

Houston receiver Andre Johnson lost by a wide margin to Philadelphia quarterback Michael Vick.

Those results mean the AFC South doesn’t have a representative in the Elite Eight.

Every other division has a player still alive, with two from the NFC North – Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.

Such things inevitably amount to popularity contests, and our combination of small markets, expansion teams and relocated franchises don’t usually make for a strong showing in such a setting.

Previously, Jones-Drew beat Indianapolis defensive end Dwight Freeney and Johnson beat Tennessee running back Chris Johnson in the first round.

Nothing against New England’s Danny Woodhead or Cleveland’s Peyton Hillis, but Jones-Drew and Johnson have superior résumés so far.

The bright side to the losses? No potential for a jinx.
