Marcedes Lewis needs to lead Jaguars

The Jaguars have locked up tight end Marcedes Lewis for five years, Vito Stellino reports.

His new deal will be worth slightly less than $35 million total and includes guarantees of slightly less than $18 million.

Looks like a win-win.

I think the team has faith that Lewis has become an elite player who won’t drop off from a career season last year. He spent the offseason/lockout in Southern California and returns in the best shape of his life, thanks largely to mixed martial arts work.

Lewis should continue to grow as a leader and a player and the Jaguars are fortunate to have him as one of the faces of their franchise moving ahead. Whenever it is that Blaine Gabbert takes over as the quarterback, Lewis will be an ideal security blanket with big-play potential.
