Rapid Reaction: Jets 24, Titans 17

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The Titans can paint themselves a good team with bad results all they like. I’m a subscriber to the Bill Parcells you-are-what-your-record-is philosophy.

And what the Titans are is an underachieving 0-3 team, grateful the Jags upset the Texans, hopeful the Cardinals will knock off the Colts.

Even with good results elsewhere, Tennessee's had none of its own.

Since 1990, when the playoffs became six teams from each conference, only three teams have recovered from 0-3 to make the playoffs. Jeff Fisher will immediately spin how the Titans aren’t concerned about that or say how the Titans will become the fourth.

But why should anyone outside their locker room or headquarters be a believer?

The defense gave up too much too early, and while it recovered impressively it was too late.

The offense found some big plays but not enough points as Kerry Collins threw two picks and his receivers dropped a bunch of balls on him.

And special teams was an absolute fiasco, with the stubborn Titans relying on rookie Ryan Mouton who handed the Jets spectacular field position with a fumbled kickoff and a mangled punt.

There are a lot of good teams in the AFC right now. Tennessee isn’t one of them.
