Luck contract done with time to spare

Everyone said it would happen and not to panic.

And here we are nine days before the Colts report to training camp in Anderson, Ind., and it’s happened and there was no cause for panic.

No. 1 pick Andrew Luck has signed a four-year deal with the Colts. Owner Jim Irsay tweeted a picture of the official moment.

The Indianapolis Star says it will be a fully guaranteed contract that should be worth about $22 million with a $14.5 million signing bonus and include a Colts option for a fifth season.

The Colts still have to sign second-round tight end Coby Fleener and third-round tight end Dwayne Allen.

Luck's contract is another step in a long series of firsts for the quarterback, who’s been working on his own with his new teammates during a stretch when they aren’t allowed to be on the field together at team headquarters.

Next up: The first camp practice with the full team on July 29, the first preseason game Aug. 12 and, finally, the regular-season opener on Sept. 9 at Chicago (not Minnesota, as I originally wrote).
