Johnathan Joseph typically follows a team’s best receiver because he’s the Texans’ best corner, but he’s out with a hamstring injury.
I presumed Houston would play Kareem Jackson and Joseph’s replacement, Ball, on sides with Brice McCain lining up in the slot. As Johnson moved around, I figured they’d all be involved in covering Megatron, with plenty of safety help.
But the Texans have deployed Ball as if he’s Joseph and he’s shown he certainly is not.
Johnson’s got five catches for 103 yards and a touchdown that gave the Lions their lead with 1:49 left in the second quarter.
Let’s see what Phillips and the Texans try against Johnson in the second half.
And if Houston can feature Andre Johnson a bit more in a potential shootout.
