What I think the Texans are thinking

What I think they are thinking at the headquarters of the Houston Texans this evening ...

Maybe first-round rookie Whitney Mercilus, who will be stepping in to play for the injured Brooks Reed at outside linebacker, will give our pass rush the spark beyond J.J. Watt that we’ve been missing. We need it, because pass defense has been poor the last two weeks, one with our top cornerback, Johnathan Joseph, and one without him. There is an awful lot of talk about our recent defensive struggles, and we know we need to get better than we were against Jacksonville and Detroit -- games, by the way, that we won. But have faith we have the people and the architect, in Wade Phillips, to do it. We’re not looking past our trip to Tennessee this week, but many outsiders are already saying we won’t be able to win at New England on "Monday Night Football" on Dec. 10. They’d be wise to take more of a wait-and-see view on that.
