Missing Arians next obstacle for Colts

The Colts rallied around Chuck Pagano while he was away, fighting leukemia.

There is no indication that Bruce Arians, the offensive coordinator who worked as the interim coach in Pagano’s absence, is dealing with anything nearly as serious.

But the Colts will have to rally again today in Baltimore for a coach who won’t be with them. Arians is ill and in the hospital, and quarterbacks coach Clyde Christensen will call plays for Andrew Luck and the offense against the Ravens. Arians is expected to interview for head coaching jobs in Philadelphia and Chicago in the coming week.

Christensen is one of very few holdovers from the Bill Polian/Tony Dungy/Jim Caldwell regime. He’s well liked by those who work with him, though his record as the lead guy for an offense -- for Dungy in Tampa and Caldwell in Indy -- was hardly great.

The Colts have been able to roll though stuff and overcome all season.

Will Arians’ absence be just another bump in the road? Or is his surprise absence something that can throw off an underdog playing its biggest game of the season?

Add it to the list of storylines we'll track today.
