RTC: Where does Barwin rank for Texans?

Reading the coverage…

Houston Texans

Bum Phillips is having some health issues, but in his traditional style he told Dale Robertson of the Houston Chronicle he’s not dying yet.

The Texans' draft plans depend on what happens during free agency, says John McClain of the Chronicle.

Does Connor Barwin rank in the top 20 percent of the Texans' roster? Battle Red Blog considers.

To which I say: The 2011 Barwin certainly does, and the way they are talking of him it seems the Texans think that's the guy they'll be getting if they re-sign him.

Indianapolis Colts

Ryan Grigson is much more comfortable and in a much better situation than he was a year ago, says Bob Kravitz of the Indianapolis Star. “But fans need to be careful, need to temper expectations. Last year’s magic is not easily replicable.”

To which I say: I agree entirely, but I also feel like the foundation that magic helped build can be strong enough to work without those special circumstances.

Things are back to as normal as possible for Chuck Pagano, says Mike Chappell of the Star.

The defense will have to be the focus for the Colts to succeed in 2013, says Derrick Hawkins of Stampede Blue.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Derek Cox’s representative will meet with the Jaguars Saturday, but the corner is expected to explore the market when free agency arrives, says Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union.

The Jaguars mean it when they say they won’t be active in early, expensive free agency, says John Oehser of Jaguars.com.

Veteran defensive tackle Chris Canty, who already got an offer from the Titans, is expected to visit the Jaguars, says Mike Garafolo of USA Today.

To which I say: If Canty's price is reasonable, and it should be, he's the sort of guy the Jaguars could and should add.

Tennessee Titans

George Wilson intends to build credibility as a leader by showing a daily example of hard work and professionalism, he told Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean. The contract is for two years and $4 million.

The Titans seek a healthier, more self-protective Jake Locker in his third season, says Wyatt.

To which I say: If they address the interior line as they've said they will, that will be a huge boon to this effort. Though better guards won't do a lot to protect him when he's running around.

Steve McNair’s widow sold the Nashville home where they lived, says Getahn Ward of The Tennessean.
