Allen, Fleener getting closer to playing

All indications point to Indianapolis Colts tight end Coby Fleener being in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

Fleener, who suffered a concussion in last weekend’s preseason loss to the Buffalo Bills, has one more test to pass before being cleared to play against the Giants. Coach Chuck Pagano believes that won’t be a problem. Fleener was cleared to return to practice earlier this week.

Fellow tight end Dwayne Allen is out of the walking boot on his right foot. He’s currently wearing an orthotic in his shoe and will switch back to the boot at some point. Allen caught passes from some of the equipment guys during the team’s final training camp practice at Anderson (Ind.) University on Friday.

When asked about not wearing the boot as he walked off the field, Allen told a reporter he’s a "fine physical specimen" like Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson.

The Colts remain optimistic that Allen will be ready for the season opener against Oakland on Sept. 8.

“He is trending and progressing in the right direction, so hopefully we get him back sooner than later,” Pagano said.
