RTC: Mercifully, Texans season ends

Reading the coverage of the Houston Texans...

It was a merciful end to a disastrous season, writes Jerome Solomon of the Houston Chronicle. Cornerback Kareem Jackson said "that was nasty." Solomon and I sat next to each other in the press box. I had already used the word "merciful" to describe the end of the season. We brainstormed on another option before I finally settled upon "benevolent." One way or another, the end of the season felt like a gift to these Texans. This wasn't one they'll want to remember.

With a new Texans coach, which the Chronicle's John McClain presumes will be Bill O'Brien, many changes will come.

Here is video of Texans' interim coach Wade Phillip after the season-ending loss. He said the Texans got in "a whirlpool" that never subsided. An apt description, I think.

Chris Baldwin of Houston Culture Map says Jadeveon Clowney is still a better pick for the Texans in the draft than a quarterback would be. He adds that Case Keenum, just like Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater, played well in his bowl game.
