Second-round options for AFC South

Steve Muench and Kevin Weidl of Scouts Inc. have produced a second-round mock draft, so let’s have a look at what they expect out of the AFC South.

33) Jacksonville

Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia

My thought: I’m not sold on the Jaguars going quarterback here. But then again, I wasn’t sold on them going offensive tackle last night. They could field some nice offers to drop back and add picks.

Other options: The Jaguars have options on the board who could fill some major holes -- strong safety John Cyprien, cornerback Jamar Taylor and defensive ends Cornellius Carradine or Margus Hunt. Gil Brandt of NFL.com reports they are leaning toward corner Johnthan Banks.

40) Tennessee

Cornellius Carradine, DE, Florida State

My thought: Big and strong with very good initial speed. But he’s coming off a knee injury, carries durability issues and he might lack some insticts.

Other options (presuming they last): Hunt, Taylor, defensive ends Damontre Moore, Sam Montgomery and Alex Okafor.

57) Houston

Matt Barkley, QB, USC

My thought: They’ve said they wouldn’t keep Gary Kubiak from a quarterback he can’t live without. But fans are down on Matt Schaub and adding a second-round quarterback would turn up the heat on a guy who got a long-term deal a year ago and is very close with his coach.

Other options (presuming they last): Inside linebackers Arthur Brown and Kevin Minter, tight end Zach Ertz.

The Colts don’t have a second round pick as they dealt their second-round pick, which is No. 54, to Miami for cornerback Vontae Davis.
