Texas Tech can give Titans assist with Gray

While he’s not a favorite for the job, Jerry Gray appears to be in the mix for the head-coaching job at Texas Tech that opened when Tommy Tuberville left for Cincinnati.

Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean says KAMC in Lubbock, Texas, reports that Gray has interviewed but that Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris and Texas A&M offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury are the front-runners for the job.

Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal couldn’t confirm that Gray interviewed.

The Titans defensive coordinator didn't immediately return a phone message I left for him.

Gray is a native of Lubbock, so it could be an ideal marriage.

And it would be a convenient development for the Titans. Although the defense has been playing better lately, the overall body of work this season has been poor.

Mike Munchak recently fired offensive coordinator Chris Palmer. The head coach’s job security is in question, but if Munchak keeps his job, a new defensive coordinator could be part of the changes the Titans make.

If Gray gets the Texas Tech job, he’d proactively land on his feet and avoid the possibility of getting fired by Tennessee.
