Now that the Oakland Raiders made the right move by trading for new starting quarterback Jason Campbell, they must make the necessarily corresponding move: The Raiders need to jettison JaMarcus Russell altogether.
Russell has a large contract and there is no way Oakland is going to pay a backup big money. And who's to say he could beat out Bruce Gradkowski to be Campbell’s backup anyway? The Raiders could keep him around if Russell agrees to a pay cut, but why wait to discuss money? Get rid of Russell now.
If Campbell extends his contract, he will likely be the starter through 2011. It's Campbell's offense now and the Raiders need to complete the process of breathing new life into the offense.
There’s no reason to keep the reminder of the huge failure around. Cut Russell and begin the recovery process of one of the biggest draft mistakes in league history.
