Schefter: Chargers ink rookie QB

The San Diego Chargers have signed fifth-round pick Jonathan Crompton, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He is a quarterback from Tennessee.

Crompton is San Diego’s first draft pick to sign and the third to sign in the AFC West. Denver has signed two draft picks.

Crompton will be San Diego’s third-string quarterback behind starter Philip Rivers and backup Billy Volek. The Chargers traded third stringer Charlie Whitehurst to Seattle this offseason. Crompton was a player San Diego targeted through the offseason.

Crompton trained with former NFL coach Sam Wyche. Wyche thinks Crompton has a chance to be a quality NFL player.
